Dear Minister,
I am writing to urge you to immediately halt the unlawful attacks which have
caused the death of more than 500 Palestinians and several Israeli civilians
since December 27. Although I condemn the launching of rockets from Gaza
into Israel by armed Palestinian groups, the attacks against Gaza is
disproportionate.
I am also disturbed by a humanitarian crisis in Gaza caused by the Israeli
blockade. I recognize that the Israeli authorities have a duty to protect
their own citizens, but that security measures must not violate Israel's
obligations under international human rights and humanitarian law. I
therefore urge you to lift the restrictions imposed on the passage of
persons, and of fuel, electricity and basic necessities into the Gaza Strip.
The exit of Gaza patients in need of medical treatment not available
locally should not be hindered. I also call on you urgent efforts to secure
an immediate agreement which will allow the Rafah crossing between
the Gaza Strip and Egypt to reopen.

Dear Mr. Blair,
I am writing to you to express my deep concern over the unlawful attacks
which have caused the death of more than 400 Palestinians and several Israeli
civilian since December 27. I urge you to intervene immediately to ensure
that civilians caught up in the violence are protected. I am also disturbed
by a humanitarian crisis in Gaza caused by the Israeli blockade. The 1.5
million inhabitants desperately need basic supplies. Patients in need of
medical treatment unavailable in Gaza are often denied passage out of
Gaza and scores of people have died in the past year. The Israeli
authorities must lift the restrictions on the supply of the basic
necessities
to Gaza. The patients should be allowed access to medical care outside
Gaza. I therefore urge you to ensure that the humanitarian crisis is
addressed by the Quartet, holding all of the concerned parties (Israel,
the PA, Hamas etc) accountable to the same principles of international
law - regardless of political positions towards any given party.
