バヌヌ氏からヒロシマへのメッセージ（2005年2月28日）

親愛なる広島の野間伸次様

私が完全に釈放されるために手紙を書き続け、働いて下さっていることに感謝します。以下はヒロシマへの私のメッセージです。「日本は世界の核拡散との関係を問い直すべきです」

私の見方では、日本が多くの原子力を使用することを当然としていることは、日本が核拡散に協力し、世界中の核兵器を支持することを受け入れ導いているということです。いまや日本は35の原子炉を有しています。今や日本はプルトニウムの大量の備蓄　−　数千キロで大量の原爆を製造する潜在力を意味する　−　を抱えています。

最初から、日本は原子力を使わないでいることができたでしょうし、中東からの石油に依存するか、日本の優れた近代的創造力で代替エネルギーに投資することもできたでしょう。

日本が核拡散を支えるよう導くために、米国とヨーロッパは、実際、殆ど必要のない時に、日本が原子力を使用するよう確信させました。日本はヒロシマのメッセージを強く鮮明に想起すべきでした。核兵器の拡散を止め、核兵器のない全世界とするためにも。

そして21世紀の今日、日本はそのメッセージに立ち戻り、原子力廃止に向けて原子炉の数の削減を始めることができます。より重要なことは、ヒロシマ・ナガサキのメッセージを広め、声を大にしてはっきりさせるためにも、人類は原子力または核兵器を使用すべきではないということです。

今年はヒロシマ・ナガサキの60周年であり、核兵器廃絶はもちろん原子力の廃止に向けて日本政府がこのような政策をとることが、賢明な決定となるでしょう。ドイツ、スウェーデン、オランダ、ベルギーのような多くのヨーロッパの国々は過去にこのことを決定しています。多くがこの方向に向かうことでしょう。

ヒロシマ・ナガサキのメッセージは核兵器と原子力の廃絶のみを意味するものではなく、核廃棄物や兵器類の材料、または兵器に匹敵する他の物質を生み出す原子炉をなくしていくことでもあるのです。

来る8月にヒロシマ・ナガサキを訪問し、このメッセージをはっきりと声高に述べたいです。

21世紀は核の世界の終わりとなるべきです。

Dear Noma Shinji of Hiroshima,
Thank you for continuing to write and working for my total release. Here is
my message to Hiroshima: Japan should interrogate it's connection to the
world's nuclear proliferation.

My view is that to buy and recruit Japan to cooperate with nuclear
proliferation and to support nuclear weapons around the world was done by
convincing Japan to use a lot of nuclear energy. Now Japan has 35 nuclear
reactors for energy. Now, Japan has a huge stockpile of
plutonium---thousands of kilos, great potential for building a huge number
of atomic weapons.

>From the beginning, Japan could have been free from nuclear energy, and
could have relied on oil production from the Middle East or to invest a
great deal in alternative energies, with the talent Japan's modern
creativity.

To recruit Japan to support nuclear proliferation, the US and Europe
convinced Japan to use nuclear energy, when in fact this was hardly
necessary. Japan should have remembered vividly and strongly the message of
Hiroshima:  to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons and to make the
whole world free of nuclear weapons.

So, now in the 21st century, Japan can come back to its main message and
start reducing the number of nuclear reactors towards zero for nuclear
energy.  More importantly, to spread and speak loud and clear the message of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, that the human race should not use nuclear energy or
nuclear weapons.

So, this year the 60th anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it would be a
prudent decision by the Tokyo government to adopt this policy toward the
abolition of nuclear energy as well as the abolition of nuclear weapons.
Many Europeans countries have resolved this in the past year, such as
Germany, Sweden, Holland, and Belgium.  Many more will follow in this vein.

The message of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is not ONLY the abolition of nuclear
weapons and energy, but zero nuclear reactors for energy which produce
nuclear waste and materials for weaponry, or any other weapon-grade
material.

I hope to visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki this coming August and speak this
message, loud and clear.

The 21st century should be the end of the nuclear world.
